सुन्दरकाण्ड 5.59

भयभीत समुद्र ने प्रभु राम के चरण पकड़कर कहा, “हे नाथ, मेरे सब दोष क्षमा कीजिए।”

The frightened ocean grasped Lord Rama’s feet and said, “Lord, forgive all my faults.”

हे नाथ, आकाश, वायु, अग्नि, जल और पृथ्वी—इनका व्यवहार स्वभाव से जड़ है।

Lord, sky, air, fire, water, and earth are inherently insentient in their functioning.

आपकी प्रेरणा से माया ने इन्हें उत्पन्न किया; सभी ग्रंथ इन्हें सृष्टि के हेतु बताते हैं।

Prompted by you, Maya brought these into being; all the scriptures describe them as causes of creation.

हे प्रभु, जिसके लिए जैसी आपकी आज्ञा है, वह उसी प्रकार रहकर सुख पाता है।

Lord, each being finds ease by remaining in the manner you have ordained for it.

हे प्रभु, आपने अच्छा किया कि मुझे सीख दी; फिर यह मर्यादा भी आपकी ही बनाई हुई है।

Lord, you did well to teach me a lesson; moreover, this prescribed order was established by you.

समुद्र कहता है: ढोल, गँवार, शूद्र, पशु और स्त्री—सभी ताड़ना के पात्र हैं।

The ocean says: drums, uncultivated people, Shudras, animals, and women are all fit objects of beating or chastisement.
