हे नाथ, वह कथा विस्तार से कहिए जिससे मेरा भारी भ्रम मिट जाए।

O master, tell that story in detail so that my deep confusion may be dispelled.

याज्ञवल्क्य मुस्कराकर बोले: आपको रघुपति राम की प्रभुता ज्ञात है।

Sage Yajnavalkya smiled and said: You know the sovereign greatness of Rama, lord of the Raghu lineage.

आप मन, कर्म और वाणी से राम के भक्त हैं; आपकी चतुराई मैं समझ गया हूँ।

You are devoted to Rama in thought, deed, and speech; I have understood your cleverness.

आप राम के गूढ़ गुण सुनना चाहते हैं; आपने प्रश्न ऐसे किया मानो आप अत्यंत अज्ञानी हों।

You wish to hear Rama’s profound qualities; you have posed your question as though you were utterly ignorant.

हे प्रिय, आदरपूर्वक मन लगाकर सुनिए; मैं राम की सुंदर कथा कहता हूँ।

Dear one, listen respectfully and attentively; I shall tell the lovely story of Rama.

महामोह विशाल महिषासुर है, और रामकथा भयंकर कालिका है।

Great delusion is the immense buffalo demon Mahishasura, and Rama’s story is the fearsome goddess Kalika.
