राजसुख को याद करके वह शत्रु दुखी था; उसकी छाती कुम्हार के आँवे की आग की तरह सुलग रही थी।

Remembering royal comforts, the enemy was distressed; his breast smoldered like the fire in a potter’s kiln.

राजा के सरल वचन कानों से सुनकर, वह अपनी शत्रुता याद करता हुआ मन में प्रसन्न हुआ।

Hearing the king’s innocent words, he recalled his enmity and rejoiced inwardly.

वाणी को छल में डुबोकर वह कोमल शब्दों में युक्तिपूर्वक बोला।

Steeping his speech in deceit, he spoke gently and with calculated artfulness.

“मेरा नाम भिखारि है; अब मैं निर्धन और घर से रहित हूँ।”

“My name is Bhikhari; now I am poor and without a home.”
