अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.45

जगत में मेरा अपयश हो और सुयश नष्ट हो जाए; मैं नरक में पड़ूँ अथवा स्वर्ग जाऊँ—इन सबकी मुझे परवाह नहीं।

Let me be disgraced in the world and lose my good name; whether I fall into hell or go to heaven, none of that matters to me.

मुझे सारे असहनीय दुख सहने पड़ें, पर राम मेरी आँखों से ओझल न हों।

Make me endure every unbearable sorrow, but let Rama never disappear from my sight.

राजा दशरथ मन में ऐसा विचार करते रहे, पर बोले नहीं। उनका मन पीपल के पत्ते की तरह काँप रहा था।

King Dasharatha pondered thus inwardly but said nothing. His mind trembled like a peepal leaf.

राम ने पिता को प्रेम के वश में जाना और अनुमान किया कि माता फिर कुछ कहेंगी।

Rama understood that his father was overcome by love and anticipated that his mother would say something further.

स्थान, समय और अवसर के अनुरूप विचार करके राम ने विनम्र वचन कहे।

Considering the place, time, and occasion, Rama spoke humble words suited to them.

पिताजी, मैं कुछ कहकर धृष्टता करूँ; जो अनुचित लगे, उसे मेरा बालपन समझकर क्षमा कीजिए।

Father, let me venture to say something; forgive anything improper as a child’s immaturity.
