अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.4

उन्होंने मुझे दो वरदान देने का वचन दिया था। मैंने वही माँगा जो मुझे अच्छा लगा।

He had promised to grant me two boons. I asked for whatever pleased me.

वह सुनकर राजा के हृदय में चिंता उत्पन्न हुई। वे तुम्हारे प्रति अपने संकोच को छोड़ नहीं पा रहे हैं।

Hearing that, anxiety arose in the king’s heart. He cannot overcome his hesitation concerning you.

इधर पुत्र का प्रेम है, उधर दिया हुआ वचन; राजा संकट में पड़ गए हैं।

On one side is love for his son, on the other his pledged word; the king is caught in a dilemma.

यदि तुम कर सको, तो उनकी आज्ञा सिर पर धारण करो और उनका कठिन क्लेश मिटाओ।

If you can, honor his command and remove his grievous distress.
