दशरथ के होंठ सूख रहे हैं और सारा शरीर जल रहा है; वे मानो मणि खो चुका दीन सर्प हों।

Dasharatha’s lips are drying and his whole body burns; he is like a pitiable serpent bereft of its jewel.

पास में क्रोध से भरी कैकेई दिखाई दीं, मानो मृत्यु उनकी शेष घड़ियाँ गिन रही हो।

Nearby, Kaikeyi appeared full of anger, as though death itself were counting his remaining moments.

राम का स्वभाव करुणामय और कोमल है। उन्होंने ऐसा दुःख पहली बार देखा, जिसके बारे में पहले कभी सुना भी नहीं था।

Rama’s nature is compassionate and gentle. For the first time he saw such sorrow, which he had never even heard of before.

फिर भी धैर्य रखकर और परिस्थिति विचारकर राम ने माता कैकेई से मधुर वचनों में पूछा।

Nevertheless, maintaining composure and considering the circumstances, Rama addressed his mother Kaikeyi with gentle words.

हे माता, मुझे पिता के दुःख का कारण बताइए। ऐसा उपाय किया जाए जिससे उनका दुःख दूर हो।

Mother, tell me the cause of Father’s sorrow. Let us make an effort by which it may be relieved.

कैकेई ने कहा: राम, सुनो, सारे दुःख का कारण यही है कि राजा को तुमसे बहुत प्रेम है।

Kaikeyi said: Listen, Rama; the reason for all this is that the king loves you deeply.
