अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.23

लक्ष्मण ने उठकर हाथ जोड़कर स्वामी की आज्ञा माँगी, मानो सोया हुआ वीर रस जाग उठा हो।

Lakshmana rose, joined his hands, and sought his lord’s permission, as though the slumbering heroic spirit had awakened.

उन्होंने सिर पर जटाएँ बाँधीं, कमर में तरकस कसा और धनुष-बाण हाथ में तैयार किए।

He tied his matted hair upon his head, fastened a quiver at his waist, and readied bow and arrow in his hands.

आज मैं राम के सेवक होने का यश प्राप्त करूँ और भरत को युद्ध का पाठ पढ़ाऊँ।

Today I shall win renown as Rama’s servant and teach Bharata a lesson in battle.

राम के निरादर का फल पाकर तुम दोनों भाई युद्ध की सेज पर सोओ।

Receiving the consequence of disrespecting Rama, you two brothers shall sleep upon the bed of battle.

अच्छा हुआ कि यह पूरा जमावड़ा आ जुटा; आज मैं अपना पिछला क्रोध प्रकट करूँ।

It is well that this whole gathering has assembled; today I shall unleash my pent-up anger.

जैसे सिंह हाथियों के झुंड को कुचल देता है और जैसे बाज लवा पक्षी को झपटकर पकड़ लेता है।

As a lion crushes a herd of elephants, and as a hawk swoops upon and seizes a small lark.
