उत्तरकाण्ड 7.98

न वर्णों के धर्म का पालन है, न चारों आश्रमों की व्यवस्था का। सभी स्त्री-पुरुष वेदों के विरोध में लगे हैं।

Neither the duties of the social orders nor the system of the four stages of life is observed. All men and women are engaged in opposing the Vedas.

ब्राह्मण वेदों को बेचने वाले और राजा प्रजा को खाने अर्थात् उसका शोषण करने वाले हैं। कोई भी वेदों के अनुशासन को नहीं मानता।

Brahmins sell the Vedas, and kings devour—that is, exploit—their subjects. No one follows the discipline prescribed by the Vedas.

जिसे जो भाता है, वही उसके लिए सही मार्ग है। जो डींगें हाँकता है, वही पंडित माना जाता है।

Whatever pleases someone is taken as the right path. Whoever boasts is regarded as learned.

जो झूठे आडंबरपूर्ण उपक्रमों और दंभ में लगा है, उसे सब लोग संत कहते हैं।

Everyone calls a person absorbed in false pretentious undertakings and hypocrisy a saint.

जो दूसरे का धन हर लेता है, वही चतुर माना जाता है। जो दिखावा करता है, वह बड़ा सदाचारी माना जाता है।

Whoever takes another’s wealth is considered clever. Whoever puts on a show is considered greatly virtuous.

यदि कोई झूठ बोलता है और मसखरी करना जानता है, तो कलियुग में वही गुणवान कहा जाता है।

If someone tells lies and knows how to jest, that person is praised as gifted in the age of Kali.
