उत्तरकाण्ड 7.117

हे तात, यह अकथनीय कथा सुनो। इसे समझा जा सकता है, पर इसका वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता।

Dear one, hear this inexpressible account. It can be understood, but cannot be put into words.

जीव ईश्वर का अंश है—अविनाशी, चेतन, निर्मल और स्वभावतः सुख की राशि।

The individual soul is a part of God: imperishable, conscious, stainless, and naturally an abundance of bliss.

हे स्वामी, वही जीव माया के वश में होकर तोते और बंदर की तरह बँध गया।

O master, that soul came under Maya's sway and became bound like a parrot or a monkey.

जड़ और चेतन के बीच गाँठ पड़ गई; यद्यपि वह मिथ्या है, उसका छूटना कठिन है।

A knot formed between the insentient and the conscious; although unreal, it is difficult to undo.

तब से जीव संसार में बँधा हुआ है; गाँठ नहीं छूटती और वह सुखी नहीं होता।

Since then the soul has been bound to worldly existence; the knot does not loosen, and it finds no happiness.

वेदों और पुराणों ने अनेक उपाय बताए, पर गाँठ नहीं छूटती, बल्कि और अधिक उलझती जाती है।

The Vedas and Puranas describe many remedies, yet the knot does not loosen and becomes increasingly entangled.
