सुन्दरकाण्ड 5.4

अत्यंत बुद्धिमान मंत्री माल्यवंत ने विभीषण के वचन सुनकर बहुत सुख माना।

Malyavant, a very wise minister, felt great pleasure on hearing Vibhishana’s words.

माल्यवंत बोले: हे तात, तुम्हारा छोटा भाई नीति का आभूषण है। विभीषण जो कह रहा है, उसे हृदय में धारण करो।

Malyavant said: Dear sir, your younger brother is an ornament of sound counsel. Take to heart what Vibhishana is saying.

रावण बोला: ये दोनों मूर्ख शत्रु की बड़ाई कर रहे हैं! यहाँ कोई है जो इन्हें दूर करे?

Ravana said: These two fools are praising the enemy’s greatness! Is there no one here to remove them?

माल्यवंत तब घर लौट गए। विभीषण फिर हाथ जोड़कर कहते हैं।

Malyavant then returned home. Vibhishana speaks again with folded hands.

हे नाथ, अच्छी और बुरी बुद्धि सबके हृदय में रहती हैं; पुराण और वेद ऐसा कहते हैं।

My lord, good and bad judgment dwell in everyone’s heart; so say the Puranas and the Vedas.

जहाँ अच्छी बुद्धि है, वहाँ अनेक प्रकार की समृद्धि है; जहाँ बुरी बुद्धि है, वहाँ विपत्ति का मूल है।

Where there is good judgment, there is prosperity of many kinds; where there is bad judgment, there lies the root of calamity.
