सुन्दरकाण्ड 5.37

रावण सभा में बैठा तो उसे यह समाचार मिला कि सारी सेना समुद्र के उस पार आ पहुँची है।

When Ravana sat in council, he received news that the entire army had arrived on the far side of the sea.

उसने मंत्रियों से पूछा, ‘उचित सलाह बताओ।’ वे सब हँसे और बोले, ‘निश्चिंत होकर रहिए।’

He asked the ministers, ‘Give sound advice.’ They all laughed and said, ‘Remain at ease.’

आपने देवताओं और असुरों को जीत लिया, तब भी श्रम नहीं हुआ; मनुष्य और वानर किस गिनती में हैं?

You conquered gods and demons without even exertion then; what account are humans and monkeys?

यदि मंत्री, वैद्य और गुरु—ये तीन—भय या लाभ की आशा से केवल प्रिय बातें कहें,

If a minister, physician, and teacher—these three—say only pleasing things out of fear or hope of gain,

तो राज्य, धर्म और शरीर—इन तीनों का शीघ्र ही नाश हो जाता है।

then the kingdom, religious duty, and body—all three—soon perish.
