लङ्काकाण्ड 6.73

वानर व्याकुल हो गए—कहाँ जाएँ? वे मानो भवन में बंदी पड़े हुए देवराज इंद्र हों।

The monkeys grew distraught—where could they go? They were like Indra, king of the gods, held captive in a mansion.

उसने पवनपुत्र हनुमान, अंगद, नल, नील और सभी बलवान योद्धाओं को व्याकुल कर दिया।

He distressed Hanuman, son of the wind-god, Angada, Nala, Nila, and all the mighty warriors.

फिर उसने लक्ष्मण, सुग्रीव और विभीषण को बाणों से मारकर उनके शरीर क्षत-विक्षत कर दिए।

Then he struck Lakshmana, Sugriva, and Vibhishana with arrows, leaving their bodies battered.

फिर वह श्रीराम से लड़ने लगा। वह जो बाण छोड़ता, वे सर्प बनकर राम से लिपटने लगते।

Then he began fighting Rama. The arrows he released became serpents and began fastening themselves onto Rama.

खर के शत्रु श्रीराम सर्प-पाश के वश में हो गए—वे, जो स्वयं अपने वश में रहने वाले, अनंत, अद्वितीय और विकाररहित हैं।

Rama, the foe of Khara, came under the serpent bonds—he who is self-governed, infinite, unique, and unchanging.

वे एक भगवान सदा स्वतंत्र हैं, किंतु नट की तरह अनेक प्रकार के दिखावटी चरित्र करते हैं।

The one Lord is always independent, yet, like an actor, performs many assumed roles.
