कुल्हाड़ा, बाण और धनुष धारण किए देखकर बालक ने आपको वीर समझा और उसे क्रोध आ गया।

Seeing you bearing an axe, arrows, and a bow, the boy took you for a warrior and became angry.

वह आपका नाम जानता था, पर आपको पहचान नहीं पाया; उसने अपने वंश के स्वभाव के अनुसार उत्तर दिया।

He knew your name but did not recognize you; he answered according to his lineage’s disposition.

हे स्वामी, यदि आप मुनि की तरह आए होते, तो बालक आपके चरणों की धूल अपने सिर पर रखता।

My lord, had you come as a sage, the boy would have placed the dust of your feet upon his head.

अनजाने में हुई भूल क्षमा कीजिए; ब्राह्मण के हृदय में भरपूर दया होनी चाहिए।

Forgive the mistake made unknowingly; a Brahmin’s heart should hold abundant compassion.

हे नाथ, हमारी और आपकी बराबरी कैसी? कहिए न—चरण कहाँ और मस्तक कहाँ!

My lord, how could we be your equals? Tell me—what comparison is there between feet and the head!

हमारा छोटा नाम केवल ‘राम’ है; आपका ‘परशु’ सहित बड़ा नाम ‘परशुराम’ है।

Our short name is merely ‘Rama’; yours, with ‘axe’ added, is the longer name ‘Parashurama’.
