बालकाण्ड 1.26

हे दिशाओं के हाथियो, कच्छप, शेषनाग और वराह! धैर्य रखकर पृथ्वी को सँभालो, वह डोलने न पाए।

O elephants of the directions, tortoise, serpent, and boar! Steadfastly support the earth so that it does not shake.

राम शिव का धनुष तोड़ना चाहते हैं। मेरी आज्ञा सुनकर सावधान हो जाओ।

Rama intends to break Shiva’s bow. Hear my command and be alert.

जब राम धनुष के पास आए, तब पुरुषों और स्त्रियों ने देवताओं और अपने पुण्यों से अनुकूल फल की प्रार्थना की।

When Rama approached the bow, the men and women invoked the gods and their accumulated merit for a favorable outcome.

सबके संशय और अज्ञान तथा मूर्ख राजाओं का अभिमान—

Everyone’s doubts and ignorance, and the pride of foolish kings—

परशुराम के गर्व की भारी महिमा और देवताओं तथा श्रेष्ठ मुनियों की कायरता—

The imposing weight of Parashurama’s pride, and the timidity of the gods and eminent sages—

सीता की चिंता, जनक का पछतावा और रानियों के भयंकर दुःख का दावानल—

Sita’s anxiety, Janaka’s regret, and the wildfire of the queens’ terrible sorrow—
