अयोध्या नगरी में रघुकुल के मणि समान एक राजा थे। उनका दशरथ नाम वेदों में प्रसिद्ध था।

In Ayodhya there was a king, the jewel of Raghu's lineage. His name, Dasharatha, was renowned in the Vedas.

वे धर्म का भार सँभालने वाले, गुणों के भंडार और ज्ञानी थे। उनके हृदय में भक्ति थी और मन शार्ङ्गधनुषधारी भगवान में लगा था।

He was an upholder of dharma, a treasury of virtues, and wise. His heart held devotion, and his mind rested on the Lord who bears the Sharnga bow.

कौसल्या आदि उनकी सभी प्रिय रानियाँ पवित्र आचरण वाली थीं।

All his beloved queens, beginning with Kausalya, were pure in conduct.

वे पति के अनुकूल थीं, उनका प्रेम दृढ़ था और वे हरि के चरणकमलों में विनम्र थीं।

They were devoted to their husband, steadfast in love, and humble before Hari's lotus feet.
