फिर रावण ने मेघनाद को बुलवाया, उसे सीख दी और उसका बल तथा वैर बढ़ाया।

Then Ravana summoned Meghnada, instructed him, and heightened his strength and hostility.

जो देवता युद्ध में धैर्यवान और बलवान हैं, जिन्हें अपने लड़ने की शक्ति का अभिमान है—

Those gods who are steadfast and mighty in battle, and proud of their fighting ability—

उन्हें युद्ध में जीतकर बाँधकर ले आना। पुत्र ने उठकर पिता की आज्ञा सिर पर धारण की, अर्थात स्वीकार की।

Defeat them in battle and bring them back bound. The son rose and respectfully accepted his father’s command.

इस प्रकार उसने सबको आज्ञा दी और स्वयं हाथ में गदा लेकर चल पड़ा।

In this way he gave orders to everyone, then set out himself with a mace in hand.

रावण के चलने पर पृथ्वी डोलती थी; उसकी गर्जना से देवताओं की स्त्रियों के गर्भ गिर जाते थे।

As Ravana moved, the earth trembled; at his roaring, the gods’ wives miscarried.

क्रोधित रावण के आने का समाचार सुनकर देवताओं ने मेरु पर्वत की गुफाओं में शरण खोजी।

Hearing that the enraged Ravana was approaching, the gods sought refuge in the caves of Mount Meru.
