इसलिए मैं संसार में गुप्त रहता हूँ। हरि के सिवा मेरा कोई भी प्रयोजन नहीं है।

Therefore I remain unknown in the world. I have no purpose whatsoever apart from the Lord.

प्रभु बिना बताए ही सब जानते हैं। कहो, लोगों को प्रसन्न करने से कौन-सी सिद्धि मिलती है?

The Lord knows everything without being told. Tell me, what accomplishment comes from pleasing people?

तुम पवित्र और सुबुद्धि हो तथा मुझे अत्यंत प्रिय हो। तुम्हें मुझ पर प्रेम और विश्वास है।

You are pure and wise, and exceedingly dear to me. You have love for me and trust in me.

अब, प्रिय, यदि मैं तुमसे छिपाऊँ, तो मुझे अत्यंत गंभीर दोष लगेगा।

Now, dear one, if I conceal it from you, I will incur a very grave fault.

जैसे-जैसे तपस्वी वैराग्य की बातें कहता गया, वैसे-वैसे राजा में विश्वास बढ़ता गया।

As the ascetic continued speaking of detachment, the king's trust grew correspondingly.

जब उसने राजा को कर्म, मन और वाणी से अपने वश में देखा, तब वह बगुले-जैसा कपटी तपस्वी बोला।

When he saw the king under his control in deed, mind, and speech, the hypocritical ascetic then spoke.
