जिस सभा में मुनि जाकर बैठे, उनके हृदय में अपने रूप का बड़ा अभिमान था।

The sage went and sat in an assembly, his heart filled with great pride in his appearance.

वहीं महेश के दोनों गण बैठे थे। ब्राह्मण-वेश में होने से उनकी वास्तविक पहचान कोई नहीं जानता था।

The two attendants of Shiva sat there too. Disguised as Brahmins, their true identity was unknown to everyone.

वे नारद को सुनाकर व्यंग्य करते थे: ‘हरि ने आपको खूब सुंदरता दी है!’

They made mocking remarks within Narada’s hearing: ‘What fine beauty Vishnu has given you!’

‘राजकुमारी इनकी छवि देखकर रीझ जाएगी और इन्हें विशेष रूप से हरि जानकर इन्हीं को वरेगी।’

‘The princess will be charmed by his appearance and choose him, taking him to be Hari himself.’

मुनि मोह में थे; उनका मन उनके वश में नहीं था। शिव के गण बहुत आनंद पाकर हँस रहे थे—यद्यपि दिए गए पाठ के ‘सचु’ का अर्थ यहाँ अनिश्चित है।

The sage was deluded, his mind no longer under his control. Shiva’s attendants laughed with great amusement—though the supplied reading ‘सचु’ is uncertain here.

यद्यपि मुनि उनकी अटपटी बातें सुनते थे, उन्हें उनका आशय समझ नहीं आता था, क्योंकि उनकी बुद्धि भ्रम में सनी हुई थी।

Although the sage heard their odd remarks, he could not grasp their meaning, for his understanding was steeped in delusion.
