For what reason did the sage pronounce a curse? What offense had Vishnu, Lakshmi’s husband, committed?

हे त्रिपुर-विनाशक शिव, मुझे यह प्रसंग बताइए; मुनि के मन में मोह होना बड़े आश्चर्य की बात है।

O Shiva, destroyer of Tripura, tell me this episode; delusion in the sage’s mind is a great wonder.

तब शिव मुसकराकर बोले: कोई अपने आप में न ज्ञानी है, न मूर्ख।

Then Shiva smiled and said: no one is wise or foolish in their own right.

रघुपति जब जिसे जैसा करते हैं, वह उसी क्षण वैसा हो जाता है।

Whenever Rama makes someone a certain way, that person becomes so at that very moment.

हे भरद्वाज, मैं राम के गुणों की गाथा कहता हूँ; आदरपूर्वक सुनिए।

O Bharadvaja, I recount the tale of Rama’s virtues; listen with reverence.

हे तुलसी, अभिमान और मद छोड़कर संसार-बंधन का नाश करने वाले रघुनाथ का भजन करो।

O Tulsi, abandon pride and conceit and worship Rama, who destroys the bondage of worldly existence.
