अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.42

प्राणों से प्रिय भरत राज्य पाएँगे; आज विधाता हर तरह से मेरे अनुकूल हैं।

Bharata, dear to me as life itself, will receive the kingdom; today destiny favors me in every way.

यदि ऐसे कार्य के लिए भी मैं वन न जाऊँ, तो मुझे मूर्खों के समुदाय में सबसे पहले गिना जाए।

If I do not go to the forest even for such a purpose, count me foremost among fools.

जो कल्पवृक्ष छोड़कर अरंड की सेवा करते हैं और अमृत त्यागकर विष माँगकर लेते हैं—

Those who abandon the wish-fulfilling tree to tend a castor plant, and forsake nectar to ask for and take poison—

वे भी ऐसा अवसर पाकर नहीं चूकेंगे। माता, मन में विचार करके देखो।

Even they would not miss such an opportunity once they had it. Mother, consider this in your heart.

माँ, राजा को अत्यंत व्याकुल देखकर मुझे एक विशेष दुःख है।

Mother, one thing especially grieves me: seeing the king utterly distressed.

माता, मुझे विश्वास नहीं होता कि इतनी छोटी बात से पिता को इतना भारी दुःख हो रहा है।

Mother, I cannot believe that so small a matter is causing Father such great sorrow.
