अरण्यकाण्ड 3.37

हाथी हथिनियों को अपने साथ लगा लेते हैं, मानो मुझे सीख दे रहे हों।

The elephants keep their female mates close beside them, as though giving me a lesson.

भलीभाँति विचार किए हुए शास्त्र को भी बार-बार देखना चाहिए; अच्छी सेवा किए हुए राजा को भी अपने वश में नहीं समझना चाहिए।

Even a thoroughly considered scripture should be consulted repeatedly; even a well-served king should not be reckoned under one’s control.

यद्यपि स्त्री को हृदय में रखा जाए, फिर भी युवती, शास्त्र और राजा अपने वश में नहीं होते।

Even though a woman is kept in one’s heart, a young woman, scripture, and a king are not under one’s control.

प्रिय भाई, देखो, यह सुंदर वसंत प्रियाविहीन मुझमें भय उत्पन्न करता है।

Dear brother, see how this lovely spring arouses fear in me, bereft of my beloved.

मुझे विरह से व्याकुल, बलहीन और बिल्कुल अकेला जानकर—

Knowing me to be distraught with separation, powerless, and utterly alone—

कामदेव ने वन, भौंरों और पक्षियों के साथ मिलकर मुझ पर धावा किया।

Cupid, together with the forest, bees, and birds, launched a charge against me.

उसका दूत मुझे भाई के साथ देखकर लौट गया; उसकी बात सुनकर—

His messenger saw me with my brother and returned; hearing his report—

मानो तब कामदेव ने सेना को रोककर डेरा डाल दिया।

It was as though Cupid then halted his army and pitched camp.
