रावण ने स्थान को सूना देखा और तपस्वी के वेश में सीता के निकट आया।

Ravana saw the place unattended and approached Sita in an ascetic’s guise.

जिसके भय से देवता और असुर डरते हैं, रात में सो नहीं पाते और दिन में अन्न नहीं खाते—

He whose terror frightens gods and demons, so that they neither sleep at night nor eat by day—

वही दस सिरों वाला रावण कुत्ते की तरह इधर-उधर देखते हुए चोरी करने चला।

That same ten-headed Ravana went about his theft, looking here and there like a dog.

हे पक्षियों के स्वामी गरुड़, इस प्रकार कुमार्ग पर कदम रखते ही तेज, बुद्धि और बल का लेश भी नहीं रहता।

O Garuda, lord of birds, on stepping onto such an evil path, not a trace of dignity, wisdom, or strength remains.

रावण ने अनेक प्रकार की लुभावनी बातें कीं और राजनीति, भय तथा प्रेम के उपाय दिखाए।

Ravana spoke enticingly in many ways, displaying political persuasion, intimidation, and affection.

सीता ने कहा, ‘सुनो, तपस्वी महोदय! तुमने दुष्ट के समान वचन कहे हैं।’

Sita said, ‘Listen, revered ascetic! You have spoken like a wicked man.’
