मैंने अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार कथा कही, यद्यपि पहले इसे गुप्त रखा था।

I told the story according to my understanding, although I had previously kept it secret.

तुम्हारे मन में अत्यधिक प्रेम देखकर तब मैंने रघुपति राम की कथा सुनाई।

Seeing the great love in your heart, I then narrated the story of Rama, lord of the Raghu lineage.

यह कथा मूर्ख और हठी व्यक्ति को नहीं कहनी चाहिए, जो मन लगाकर हरि की लीलाएँ नहीं सुनता।

This story should not be told to a foolish, obstinate person who does not listen attentively to Hari’s deeds.

यह कथा लोभी, क्रोधी और कामासक्त व्यक्ति को नहीं कहनी चाहिए, जो समस्त चर-अचर जगत के स्वामी का भजन नहीं करता।

It should not be told to a greedy, wrathful, or lustful person who does not worship the Lord of all moving and unmoving beings.

ब्राह्मणों से द्वेष रखने वाले को यह कथा कभी नहीं सुनानी चाहिए, भले ही वह इंद्र के समान राजा हो।

Never narrate this story to someone hostile to Brahmins, even if he is a king comparable to Indra.

रामकथा सुनने के योग्य वही हैं जिन्हें सत्संग अत्यंत प्रिय है।

Those to whom the company of the good is very dear are fit to hear Rama’s story.
