उत्तरकाण्ड 7.111

मुनि ने मुझे अनेक प्रकार से समझाया, पर निर्गुण का मत मेरे हृदय में नहीं उतरा।

The sage explained it to me in many ways, but the doctrine of the attributeless did not find acceptance in my heart.

फिर मैंने उनके चरणों में सिर झुकाकर कहा: हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ, सगुण उपासना बताइए।

Then, bowing my head at his feet, I said: O foremost sage, teach me worship of the divine with attributes.

रामभक्ति जल है और मेरा मन मछली है; हे प्रवीण मुनिश्रेष्ठ, इसे उससे कैसे अलग किया जा सकता है?

Devotion to Rama is water, and my mind is a fish; O discerning sage, how can it be separated from that water?

कृपा करके वही उपदेश दीजिए जिससे मैं अपनी आँखों से रघुनाथ को देख सकूँ।

Kindly give me that teaching by which I may see Rama with my own eyes.

अयोध्यानाथ राम को जी भरकर देख लेने के बाद, तब मैं निर्गुण का उपदेश सुनूँगा।

After beholding Rama, lord of Ayodhya, to my eyes’ content, I shall then listen to instruction on the attributeless.

मुनि ने फिर हरि की अनुपम कथा कहकर, सगुण मत का खंडन किया और निर्गुण का निरूपण किया।

The sage again related Hari’s incomparable account, refuted the doctrine of the divine with attributes, and expounded the attributeless.
