जिसका मंत्री भयभीत विभीषण है, उसे संसार में विजय और वैभव कहाँ मिल सकते हैं?

How can anyone whose counselor is fearful Vibhishana gain victory and prosperity in the world?

दुष्ट रावण के वचन सुनकर दूत का क्रोध बढ़ा; अवसर विचारकर उसने पत्र निकाल लिया।

Hearing wicked Ravana’s words, the messenger’s anger grew; considering the occasion, he took out the letter.

राम के छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण ने यह पत्र दिया है। स्वामी, इसे पढ़वाकर अपनी छाती ठंडी कीजिए।

Rama’s younger brother Lakshmana gave this letter. My lord, have it read and soothe your heart.

रावण ने हँसकर पत्र बाएँ हाथ में लिया; मंत्री को बुलाकर वह मूर्ख उसे पढ़वाने लगा।

Laughing, Ravana took the letter in his left hand; the fool summoned a minister and had it read aloud.

मूर्ख! केवल बातों से अपना मन बहलाकर अपने कुल को नष्ट मत कर।

Fool! Do not destroy your lineage by reassuring yourself with mere words.

राम का विरोध करके तू विष्णु, ब्रह्मा या शिव की शरण में भी नहीं बच सकेगा।

By opposing Rama, you will not escape even under the protection of Vishnu, Brahma, or Shiva.

या तो अभिमान छोड़कर अपने छोटे भाई विभीषण की तरह प्रभु के चरण-कमलों का भौंरा बन जा—

Either abandon your pride and, like your younger brother Vibhishana, become a bee at the Lord’s lotus feet—

—या, हे दुष्ट, अपने कुल सहित राम के बाणों की आग में पतंगे की तरह नष्ट हो जा।

—or, wicked one, become a moth in the fire of Rama’s arrows, perishing along with your lineage.
