जो-जो संकेत जानकी के लिए शुभ हुए, वही रावण के लिए अशुभ हुए।

Whatever signs were auspicious for Janaki were inauspicious for Ravana.

सेना चल पड़ी—उसका वर्णन कौन कर सकता है? असंख्य वानर और भालू गरज रहे हैं।

The army set out—who could describe it? Countless monkeys and bears roar.

नखों को हथियार बनाए, पर्वत और वृक्ष धारण किए हुए वे इच्छानुसार आकाश और धरती पर चले।

With claws as weapons and carrying mountains and trees, they moved at will through the sky and over the earth.

भालू और वानर सिंह जैसी गर्जना करते हैं; दिशाओं के रक्षक हाथी डगमगाते और चिंघाड़ते हैं।

The bears and monkeys roar like lions; the elephants guarding the directions stagger and trumpet.

दिशाओं के हाथी चिंघाड़ते हैं, धरती डोलती है, पर्वत हिलते हैं और समुद्र उफनते हैं।

The elephants of the directions trumpet, the earth shakes, mountains sway, and seas surge tumultuously.

सभी गंधर्वों, देवताओं, मुनियों, नागों और किन्नरों के मन प्रसन्न हुए और उनके दुख दूर हो गए।

All the celestial musicians, gods, sages, nagas, and kinnaras rejoiced in their hearts, and their sorrows passed away.

भयंकर वानर योद्धा दाँत कटकटाते हैं; करोड़ों-करोड़ों की संख्या में वे दौड़ते हैं।

The formidable monkey warriors gnash their teeth; they rush onward in countless millions.

वे प्रबल प्रताप वाले कोसलनाथ राम की जय पुकारते और उनके अनेक गुण गाते हैं।

They acclaim Rama, the lord of Kosala whose might is immense, and sing his many virtues.

सर्पों के स्वामी शेष इतना विशाल भार सह नहीं सकते और बार-बार मूर्छित होते हैं।

Shesha, lord of serpents, cannot bear the immense weight and repeatedly swoons.

वे बार-बार अपने दाँतों से कच्छप की कठोर पीठ पकड़ते हैं; वह दृश्य कैसा शोभायमान है!

Again and again he grips the tortoise’s hard back with his teeth; how striking that sight is!

रघुवीर की सुंदर यात्रा के प्रस्थान को अत्यंत मनोहर जानकर—

Recognizing the commencement of Rama’s lovely march as supremely delightful—

मानो सर्पराज कच्छप के कवच पर उस पवित्र प्रस्थान का अमिट लेख लिख रहे हों।

It is as though the serpent king were inscribing an enduring record of that sacred departure on the tortoise’s shell.

इस प्रकार यात्रा करके कृपा के भंडार राम समुद्र के तट पर आकर ठहरे।

Traveling in this way, Rama, the treasure of compassion, came and camped on the seashore.

बहुत-से भालू और वीर वानर जहाँ-तहाँ फल खाने लगे।

The numerous bears and valiant monkeys began eating fruit here and there.
