सुन्दरकाण्ड 5.12

सीता ने कहा, “विधाता प्रतिकूल हो गया है; न आग मिलेगी, न मेरी पीड़ा मिटेगी।”

Sita said, “Fate has turned against me; neither will fire be found nor will my anguish end.”

“आकाश में अंगारे स्पष्ट दिखाई देते हैं, पर एक भी तारा धरती पर नहीं आता।”

“Embers are plainly visible in the sky, yet not even one star comes down to earth.”

“अग्निमय चंद्रमा भी आग नहीं बरसाता, मानो मुझे अभागी जानकर ऐसा करता हो।”

“Even the fire-filled moon sheds no fire, as though it knows me to be unfortunate.”

“हे अशोक वृक्ष, मेरी विनती सुनो। मेरा शोक दूर करके अपने नाम को सच्चा करो।”

“O ashoka tree, hear my plea. Make your name true by removing my sorrow.”

“तुम्हारे नए कोमल पत्ते आग के समान हैं; मुझे आग दो, विलंब मत करो।”

“Your fresh tender leaves resemble fire; give me fire, do not delay.”

सीता को अत्यंत विरह-व्याकुल देखकर हनुमान के लिए वह क्षण कल्प के समान बीता।

Seeing Sita utterly distraught by separation, Hanuman experienced that moment as an age.

तब हनुमान ने मन में विचार करके मुद्रिका नीचे डाल दी।

Then Hanuman considered the matter in his heart and dropped the ring down.

मानो अशोक वृक्ष ने अंगारा दे दिया हो; सीता ने हर्षित होकर उठकर उसे हाथ में ले लिया।

It was as though the ashoka tree had given her an ember; Sita rose joyfully and took it in her hand.
