लङ्काकाण्ड 6.9

हे तात, मेरी बात बड़े आदर से सुनो; मन में मुझे कायर मत समझो।

Dear one, listen to my words with great respect; do not regard me as a coward in your mind.

जो प्रिय लगने वाली बातें सुनते हैं और जो ऐसी बातें कहते हैं, ऐसे लोग संसार में बहुत हैं।

People who listen to pleasing words and those who speak them are plentiful in the world.

पर हे स्वामी, जो अत्यंत हितकारी किंतु सुनने में कठोर बातें सुनते और कहते हैं, वे लोग थोड़े हैं।

But, lord, few are those who listen to and speak words that are deeply beneficial yet harsh to hear.

नीति की बात सुनो: पहले दूत भेजो, सीता को लौटा दो और फिर मैत्री कर लो।

Hear this prudent counsel: first send an envoy, return Sita, and then establish friendship.

यदि वे अपनी पत्नी को पाकर लौट जाएँ, तो झगड़ा न बढ़ाया जाए।

If he and his companions return after he regains his wife, then do not prolong the conflict.

नहीं तो, हे तात, युद्ध में आमने-सामने डटकर प्रहार किया जाए।

Otherwise, dear one, confront them in battle and strike with determination.
