लङ्काकाण्ड 6.24

एक रावण बलि को जीतने पाताल गया; बच्चों ने उसे बाँधकर घुड़साल में रखा।

One Ravana went to the netherworld to conquer Bali; the children bound him and kept him in the stable.

बच्चे खेलते और जाकर उसे मारते थे; दया आने पर बलि ने उसे छुड़वा दिया।

The children played and went to strike him; moved by pity, Bali had him released.

फिर एक रावण को सहस्रबाहु ने देखा और दौड़कर ऐसे पकड़ लिया जैसे कोई अनोखा जीव हो।

Then the thousand-armed king saw one Ravana and rushed to seize him as though he were some unusual creature.

कौतुक के लिए उसे अपने भवन में ले आया; मुनि पुलस्ति ने जाकर उसे छुड़वाया।

He brought him home for amusement; the sage Pulasti went and secured his release.

एक का वर्णन करते मुझे बहुत संकोच होता है: वह बालि की काँख में रहा था।

I feel great embarrassment recounting another: he was held under Bali's arm.

हे रावण, इनमें तुम कौन हो? क्रोध छोड़कर सच बताओ।

Ravana, which of these are you? Set aside your anger and tell the truth.
