इस प्रकार देवताओं का हित अच्छी तरह होगा। सभी कहते हैं कि यह सलाह बहुत अच्छी है—दूसरे खंड में ‘मर’ का पाठ अनिश्चित है।

In this way the gods’ welfare will be well served. Everyone calls the advice very good—the reading “मर” in the second clause is uncertain.

देवताओं ने बड़े प्रेम से स्तुति की; विषम बाणों वाले, मछली के चिह्न वाली ध्वजा धारण करने वाले कामदेव प्रकट हुए।

The gods offered praise with great affection, and the god of desire appeared—the bearer of an odd number of arrows and a fish-emblazoned banner.

देवताओं ने अपनी सारी विपत्ति बताई; उसे सुनकर कामदेव ने मन में विचार किया।

The gods related their entire plight; hearing it, the god of desire reflected inwardly.

‘शंभु से विरोध करने में मेरा भला नहीं है।’ ऐसा विचार कर कामदेव ने मुसकराकर इस प्रकार कहा।

“Opposing Shiva will not bode well for me.” Having reflected thus, the god of desire smiled and spoke as follows.
