पति द्वारा त्यागे जाने से सती के हृदय में भारी दुःख था, पर अपना अपराध विचारकर वे अपनी इच्छा नहीं कहती थीं।

Sati’s heart held deep sorrow at being forsaken by her husband, but, considering her own offense, she did not voice her wish.

सती ऐसी मनोहर वाणी बोलीं जो भय, संकोच और प्रेम के रस से सनी थी।

Sati spoke in charming words suffused with fear, hesitation, and the feeling of love.

पिता के घर बड़ा उत्सव है; हे प्रभु, यदि आपकी अनुमति हो—

There is a grand celebration at my father’s home; my lord, if you grant permission—

तो हे कृपा के आश्रय, मैं आदरपूर्वक उस उत्सव को देखने जाऊँ।

Then, O abode of compassion, may I go respectfully to see that celebration.
