सती के हृदय में प्रतिदिन नई चिंता का भारी बोझ था: मैं इस दुःख-सागर के पार कब जाऊँगी?

Each day fresh anxiety weighed heavily on Sati’s heart: When shall I cross this ocean of sorrow?

मैंने जो रघुपति राम का अपमान किया और फिर पति के वचन को असत्य समझा—

For the insult I offered to Rama, lord of Raghu’s line, and for then treating my husband’s words as false—

विधाता ने मुझे उसी का फल दिया; जो कुछ उचित था, वही किया।

The Creator has given me the consequence of that; he did just what was fitting.

पर अब, हे विधाता, यह तुम्हें उचित नहीं सूझता कि शिव के विमुख हो जाने पर भी मुझे जीवित रख रहे हो।

But now, O Creator, this does not seem fitting of you: you keep me alive though Shiva has turned away from me.

हृदय की ग्लानि कही नहीं जा सकती। समझदार सती ने मन में राम का स्मरण किया।

The remorse in her heart could not be expressed. The discerning Sati remembered Rama inwardly.

यदि हे प्रभु, आप दीनों पर दया करने वाले कहलाते हैं और वेद संकट हरने वाले के रूप में आपका यश गाते हैं—

If, Lord, you are called compassionate to the distressed, and the Vedas sing your praise as the remover of suffering—
