तुमने तो मानो मृत्यु को हाँक लगाकर बुला लिया है; बार-बार मुझे ही पुकारते हो।

You seem to have summoned death with a shout; you keep calling out to me again and again.

लक्ष्मण के कठोर वचन सुनते ही परशुराम ने अपना भयंकर फरसा सँभालकर हाथ में धारण कर लिया।

Hearing Lakshmana’s harsh words, Parashurama readied his fearsome axe and took it in his hand.

अब लोग मुझे दोष न दें; यह कटु बोलने वाला बालक वध के योग्य है।

Let people not blame me now; this harsh-speaking boy deserves to be slain.

बालक समझकर मैंने इसे बहुत बचाया; अब यह सचमुच मरने वाला हो गया है।

Seeing him as a child, I have spared him much; now he has truly become one destined to die.

विश्वामित्र ने कहा, अपराध क्षमा कीजिए; साधु बालकों के दोष और गुण नहीं गिनते।

Vishvamitra said, “Forgive the offense; holy people do not reckon children’s faults and merits.”

फरसा तीखा है, मैं निर्दय और क्रोधी हूँ; सामने अपराधी और गुरु से द्रोह करने वाला खड़ा है।

The axe is sharp, and I am merciless and wrathful; before me stands an offender who acts against the guru.
