कृपालु, दीनों पर दया करने वाले और कौसल्या का हित करने वाले प्रभु प्रकट हुए।

The gracious Lord, compassionate toward the lowly and beneficent to Kausalya, appeared.

मुनियों के मन को मोहने वाले अद्भुत रूप का विचार कर माता आनंदित हुईं।

The mother rejoiced as she contemplated the wondrous form that captivates sages’ hearts.

उनका रूप आँखों को सुख देने वाला था, शरीर मेघ के समान श्याम था और चार भुजाओं में अपने आयुध थे।

His form delighted the eyes; his body was dark like a rain cloud, and his four arms bore his own weapons.

वनमाला उनका आभूषण थी, आँखें विशाल थीं; खर के शत्रु प्रभु शोभा के सागर थे।

A garland of forest flowers adorned him, his eyes were large, and the Lord, foe of Khara, was an ocean of beauty.

माता दोनों हाथ जोड़कर कहती हैं, ‘हे अनंत प्रभु, मैं किस प्रकार आपकी स्तुति करूँ?’

Joining both hands, the mother says, ‘O infinite Lord, how can I praise you?’

‘वेद और पुराण आपको माया, गुणों और ज्ञान से परे तथा माप से रहित बताते हैं।’

‘The Vedas and Puranas declare you beyond maya, the qualities of nature, and knowledge, and beyond measure.’

‘जो करुणा और सुख के सागर तथा सभी सद्गुणों के भंडार हैं, जिनका वेद और संत गुणगान करते हैं—’

‘He who is an ocean of compassion and bliss, a treasury of all virtues, whom the Vedas and saints praise—’

‘वही भक्तों से प्रेम करने वाले लक्ष्मीपति मेरे हित के लिए प्रकट हुए हैं।’

‘That very Lord, beloved of Lakshmi and loving toward his devotees, has appeared for my benefit.’

‘वेद कहते हैं कि माया से निर्मित ब्रह्मांडों के समूह आपके प्रत्येक रोम में हैं।’

‘The Vedas say that multitudes of universes created through maya are within each hair of your body.’

‘वही मेरे उर में रहे—यह बात उपहास जैसी लगती है; इसे सुनकर धीरों के स्वामी भी स्थिर नहीं रह सकते।’

‘That same Lord dwelt within me—this sounds like a jest; even the foremost of the steadfast cannot remain composed on hearing it.’

जब माता में यह ज्ञान उदित हुआ, प्रभु मुस्कुराए; वे अनेक प्रकार की लीलाएँ करना चाहते थे।

When this realization arose in the mother, the Lord smiled; he wished to enact many kinds of deeds.

उन्होंने मनोहर कथा कहकर माता को ऐसे समझाया कि उनमें पुत्र के प्रति प्रेम जागे।

He told a pleasing account and explained it to his mother so that she might feel love for him as her son.

माता फिर बोलीं; उनकी वह ज्ञानमयी बुद्धि बदल गई: ‘हे प्रिय पुत्र, यह रूप छोड़ दीजिए।’

The mother spoke again, her earlier understanding having shifted: ‘Dear child, relinquish this form.’

‘हे अत्यंत प्रिय स्वभाव वाले, शिशु की लीला कीजिए; यह सुख परम अनुपम है।’

‘O you of deeply endearing nature, play the part of an infant; this joy is utterly matchless.’

माता के वचन सुनकर सर्वज्ञ प्रभु, देवताओं के स्वामी, बालक बन गए और रोने लगे।

Hearing the mother’s words, the all-knowing Lord, ruler of the gods, became a baby and began to cry.

जो इस चरित का गान करते हैं, वे हरि के चरणों को पाते हैं और संसाररूपी कुएँ में नहीं गिरते।

Those who sing this account attain Hari’s feet and do not fall into the well of worldly existence.
