बालकाण्ड 1.174

हे अधम क्षत्रिय! तूने ब्राह्मणों को बुलाकर उनके पूरे समुदाय को मार डालने का उपक्रम किया।

You unworthy warrior! You summoned the Brahmins and sought to destroy their entire community.

ईश्वर ने हमारा धर्म बचा लिया। तू अपने परिवार सहित नष्ट होगा।

God has preserved our religious integrity. You will perish along with your family.

एक वर्ष के भीतर तेरा नाश हो; तेरे कुल में जल देने वाला भी कोई न बचे।

May you be destroyed within a year; may no one remain in your lineage even to offer water to the departed.

शाप सुनकर राजा अत्यंत भय से व्याकुल हो गया। फिर आकाश से श्रेष्ठ वाणी हुई।

Hearing the curse, the king became distraught with great fear. Then a lofty voice spoke from the sky.

हे ब्राह्मणो! तुमने विचार करके शाप नहीं दिया। राजा ने कोई अपराध नहीं किया है।

Brahmins! You gave this curse without due consideration. The king has committed no offense.

आकाशवाणी सुनकर सभी ब्राह्मण चकित हुए। राजा वहाँ गया जहाँ भोजन बनाने का स्थान था।

All the Brahmins were astonished to hear the heavenly voice. The king went to the place where the food was prepared.
