हे मुनि, वह पवित्र पुरानी कथा सुनिए, जिसे शिव ने पार्वती को सुनाया था।

Listen, O sage, to the sacred ancient story that Shiva narrated to Parvati.

कैकय नाम का एक विश्वविख्यात देश था; वहाँ सत्यकेतु नाम के राजा रहते थे।

There was a renowned country called Kaikaya, where King Satyaketu lived.

वे धर्म का भार सँभालने वाले, नीति के भंडार और तेज, प्रताप, शील तथा बल से संपन्न थे।

He was an upholder of righteousness, a repository of wise conduct, and endowed with brilliance, majesty, good character, and strength.

उनके दो वीर पुत्र हुए, जो सभी गुणों के भंडार और युद्ध में अत्यंत धीर थे।

He had two valiant sons, repositories of every virtue and exceedingly steadfast in battle.

जो बड़ा पुत्र था और राज्य का स्वामी बना, उसका नाम प्रतापभानु था।

The elder son, who became lord of the kingdom, was named Pratapabhanu.

दूसरे पुत्र का नाम अरिमर्दन था; उसकी भुजाओं का बल अतुलनीय था और वह युद्ध में अडिग था।

The other son was named Arimardana; his strength of arms was unequalled, and he was unshakable in battle.
