मेरी विविध प्रकार की विनती समझकर, कोई कथा सुनने के बाद मुझे दोष न दे।

Understanding my pleas made in various ways, let no one blame me after hearing the narrative.

इतना कहने पर भी जो शंका करेंगे, वे मुझसे अधिक जड़ और बुद्धि के दरिद्र हैं।

Those who still raise doubts after all this are duller than I am and poorer in understanding.

मैं कवि नहीं हूँ, न अपने को चतुर कहलाता हूँ; अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार राम के गुण गाता हूँ।

I am no poet, nor do I claim to be clever; I sing Rama's virtues according to my understanding.

कहाँ रघुपति के असीम चरित्र, और कहाँ संसार में लगी हुई मेरी बुद्धि!

What comparison is there between Rama's boundless deeds and my mind absorbed in worldly affairs!

जिस वायु से मेरु पर्वत उड़ जाता है, कहो, उसके सामने रूई की क्या गिनती है?

When a wind can carry away Mount Meru, tell me, what does a tuft of cotton count for before it?

राम की असीम प्रभुता समझते हुए, उनकी कथा कहते समय मन बहुत घबराता है।

Recognizing Rama's immeasurable greatness, my mind becomes very apprehensive when recounting his story.

सरस्वती, शेष, शिव, ब्रह्मा तथा आगम, वेद और पुराण—

Saraswati, Shesha, Shiva, Brahma, and the Agamas, Vedas, and Puranas—

जिन राम के गुणों का वे निरंतर गान करते हैं, ‘नेति, नेति’—अर्थात इतना ही नहीं, इतना ही नहीं—कहते हुए।

They continually sing Rama's virtues, saying 'not this alone, not this alone,' acknowledging that no description exhausts them.
