अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.83

तब सुमंत्र ने राजा के वचन सुनाए और विनती करके राम को रथ पर चढ़ाया।

Then Sumantra conveyed the king’s words and, after making a respectful request, helped Rama board the chariot.

सीता सहित दोनों भाई रथ पर चढ़कर, मन ही मन अयोध्या को सिर नवाते हुए चले।

The two brothers boarded the chariot with Sita and departed, inwardly bowing their heads to Ayodhya.

राम को जाते देखकर अयोध्या अनाथ हो गई; सभी व्याकुल लोग उनके साथ चलने लगे।

Seeing Rama depart, Ayodhya felt bereft of its protector; all its distraught people began following him.

करुणा के सागर राम उन्हें अनेक प्रकार से समझाते हैं। वे लौटते हैं, पर प्रेम के वश होकर फिर वापस आ जाते हैं।

Rama, the ocean of compassion, reasons with them in many ways. They turn back, but, overcome by love, return to him again.

अयोध्या अत्यंत भयावनी लगती है, मानो अँधेरी कालरात्रि हो।

Ayodhya seems terribly frightening, like a dark night of doom.

नगर के स्त्री-पुरुष भयानक जीवों जैसे लगते हैं और एक-दूसरे को देखकर डरते हैं।

The city’s men and women seem like fearsome creatures and are frightened at the sight of one another.
