अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.35

या तो अपना वचन छोड़ दो, या धीरज धरो; अबला की तरह करुण विलाप मत करो।

Either abandon your promise or remain steadfast; do not lament like a powerless woman.

शरीर, पत्नी, पुत्र, घर, धन और भूमि—सत्यप्रतिज्ञ व्यक्ति के लिए ये तिनके के समान कहे गए हैं।

Body, wife, son, home, wealth, and land are described as mere straw to one steadfast in keeping his word.

मर्म को चोट पहुँचाने वाले वचन सुनकर राजा कहते हैं, ‘कहो; तुम्हारा कोई दोष नहीं है।’

Hearing these piercing words, the king says, ‘Speak; there is no fault of yours.’

मेरा काल तुम्हें पिशाच की तरह लग गया है और तुमसे ये बातें कहलवा रहा है।

My doom has possessed you like a demon and is making you speak these words.
