श्रीराम, साधु-समाज, मुनि और मिथिला के स्वामी जनक स्नेह से शिथिल हो गए।

Rama, the assembly of holy people, the sages, and Janaka, lord of Mithila, were overcome with affection.

वे मन ही मन भरत के भाईचारे और भक्ति की अपार महिमा सराह रहे थे।

In their hearts they praised the immense greatness of Bharata’s brotherly love and devotion.

देवता भरत की प्रशंसा करते हुए फूल बरसा रहे थे, किंतु उनके मन कुछ मलिन थे।

The gods praised Bharata and showered flowers, though their hearts were somewhat troubled.

तुलसीदास कहते हैं: भरत की बात सुनकर सब लोग व्याकुल हो गए और रात आने पर कमलों की तरह सिमट गए।

Tulsidas says: hearing Bharata’s words, everyone became distraught and drew inward like lotuses at nightfall.

दोनों समाजों के सभी नर-नारियों को दुःखी और दीन देखकर—

Seeing all the men and women of both assemblies sorrowful and helpless—

अत्यंत मलिन मन वाला इंद्र, मानो पहले से मरे हुओं को मारकर, अपना मंगल चाहता है।

Indra, deeply impure in intent, seeks his own good by, as it were, killing those already dead.
