आप स्वयं और मिथिला के राजा जनक उपस्थित हैं; मेरा कुछ कहना हर प्रकार से अनगढ़ होगा।

You yourself and Janaka, king of Mithila, are present; for me to speak would be unseemly in every way.

आपकी राय और राजा की आज्ञा जो हो, आपकी शपथ, मैं उसी को सिर पर धारण करूँगा।

Whatever your counsel and the king’s command may be, I swear by you that I shall accept it reverently.

राम की शपथ सुनकर मुनि वसिष्ठ और जनक पूरी सभा सहित संकोच में पड़ गए।

Hearing Rama’s oath, the sage Vasishtha and Janaka, along with the entire assembly, became abashed.

सब भरत के मुख की ओर देख रहे थे; उत्तर देते नहीं बन पड़ता था।

Everyone looked toward Bharata’s face; they could not bring themselves to give an answer.
