अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.278

जो ब्राह्मण दशरथ की नगरी के वासी थे और जो मिथिलापति जनक की नगरी के निवासी थे—

The Brahmins who lived in Dasharatha’s city and those who lived in the city of Janaka, lord of Mithila—

सूर्यवंश के गुरु वसिष्ठ और जनक के पुरोहित, जिन्होंने जगत में परमार्थ का मार्ग खोजा और स्पष्ट किया था—

Vasishtha, preceptor of the solar dynasty, and Janaka’s priest, who had discerned and clarified the path to spiritual welfare in the world—

वे धर्म, नीति, वैराग्य और विवेक से युक्त अनेक उपदेश देने लगे।

They began giving many teachings imbued with righteousness, sound conduct, dispassion, and discernment.

विश्वामित्र ने पुरानी कथाएँ बार-बार कहकर अपनी सुंदर वाणी से पूरी सभा को समझाया।

By recounting ancient stories, Vishvamitra instructed and consoled the entire assembly with gracious words.

तब राम ने विश्वामित्र से कहा, ‘नाथ, कल सब बिना जल के रहे।’

Then Rama said to Vishvamitra, “Master, yesterday everyone went without water.”

मुनि बोले, ‘राम उचित कह रहे हैं; दिन के ढाई पहर बीत गए हैं।’

The sage said, “Rama speaks rightly; two and a half watches of the day have passed.”
