अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.264

मैं अपना स्वभाव सत्य कहता हूँ, शिव साक्षी हैं। भरत, राज्यभूमि तुम्हारे सँभालने से सुरक्षित रही है।

I speak truthfully of my disposition, with Shiva as witness. Bharata, the kingdom has remained safe under your protection.

प्रिय भाई, व्यर्थ कुतर्क मत करो। बैर और प्रेम छिपाने पर भी नहीं छिपते।

Dear brother, do not indulge in futile arguments. Enmity and love cannot be hidden, even when one tries to conceal them.

पक्षी और हिरन मुनियों के पास जाते हैं, पर पकड़नेवालों और शिकारियों को देखकर भाग जाते हैं।

Birds and deer approach sages, but flee on seeing trappers and hunters.

पशु-पक्षी भी हित और अहित पहचानते हैं; मनुष्य का शरीर तो गुण और ज्ञान का भंडार है।

Even animals and birds recognize benefit and harm; the human body is a repository of virtues and knowledge.

प्रिय भाई, मैं तुम्हें भली-भाँति जानता हूँ। अपने मन में असमंजस क्यों करूँ?

Dear brother, I know you well. Why should I harbor uncertainty in my heart?

राजा दशरथ ने मुझे त्यागकर अपने वचन की सत्यता रखी और प्रेम का प्रण निभाने के लिए शरीर छोड़ दिया।

King Dasharatha upheld his word by giving me up, and gave up his body to uphold his pledge of love.
