वे हाथ मलते, सिर पीटते और पछताते हैं, मानो किसी कृपण ने अपना संचित धन खो दिया हो।

He wrings his hands, beats his head, and laments, like a miser who has lost his hoarded wealth.

मानो कोई योद्धा वीरता का प्रण लेकर और अपने को महान वीर कहलाकर युद्ध से भाग चला हो।

He is like a warrior who, after pledging valor and having himself called a great hero, flees the battle.

एक विवेकी, वेदज्ञ, सम्मानित, सदाचारी और कुलीन ब्राह्मण—

A discerning, Veda-learned, respected, virtuous Brahmin of good lineage—

जैसे ऐसा ब्राह्मण भूल से मदिरा पी लेने पर पछताए, उसी प्रकार मंत्री सुमंत्र शोक करते हैं।

As such a Brahmin would lament after drinking alcohol by mistake, so does the minister Sumantra grieve.
