अयोध्याकाण्ड 2.13

रानी ने हँसकर कहा, ‘तू बड़ी बातें बनाती है; मेरे मन में लगता है कि लक्ष्मण ने तुझे सीख दी है।’

The queen laughed and said, ‘You are quite the boastful talker; I think Lakshmana has taught you a lesson.’

तब भी वह बड़ी पापिनी दासी नहीं बोली; वह ऐसी साँसें छोड़ती रही मानो काली नागिन हो।

Even then the deeply sinful maid did not speak; she exhaled like a black she-serpent.

रानी ने डरकर कहा, ‘बताती क्यों नहीं? राम, महाराज दशरथ—सब कुशल तो हैं?’ (प्रश्न अगली पंक्ति में जारी है।)

Alarmed, the queen said, ‘Why do you not tell me? Are Rama and King Dasharatha well?’ (The question continues in the next line.)

‘लक्ष्मण, भरत और शत्रुघ्न भी कुशल हैं?’ यह सुनकर कुबड़ी मंथरा के हृदय में पीड़ा हुई।

‘And are Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna well?’ Hearing this, the hunchbacked Manthara felt a pang in her heart.
