धैर्य, धर्म, मित्र और पत्नी—इन चारों की परीक्षा संकट के समय होती है।

Patience, righteousness, a friend, and a wife—these four are tested in adversity.

पति बूढ़ा, रोगग्रस्त, मंदबुद्धि, निर्धन, अंधा, बहरा, क्रोधी या अत्यंत दीन हो—

Even if a husband is old, diseased, dull-witted, penniless, blind, deaf, ill-tempered, or utterly helpless—

ऐसे पति का भी अपमान करने पर स्त्री यमलोक में अनेक दुख पाती है।

A woman who insults even such a husband suffers many torments in Yama’s realm.

एक ही धर्म, व्रत और नियम है: शरीर, वचन और मन से पति के चरणों में प्रेम रखना।

There is one duty, vow, and observance: love for the husband’s feet in body, speech, and mind.

संसार में पतिव्रता स्त्रियाँ चार प्रकार की होती हैं; वेद, पुराण और सभी संत ऐसा कहते हैं।

Faithful wives are of four kinds in the world, say the Vedas, Puranas, and all saints.

उत्तम पतिव्रता के मन में ऐसा भाव बसा रहता है कि सपने में भी संसार में पति के सिवा कोई दूसरा पुरुष नहीं है।

In the highest kind of faithful wife, this conviction abides: even in dreams, no man exists in the world apart from her husband.
