अरण्यकाण्ड 3.17

हे सुंदरी, सुनो! मैं उनका सेवक हूँ; पराधीन हूँ, इसलिए तुम्हारे लिए सुखद अनुकूल साथी नहीं हूँ।

Listen, beautiful lady: I am his servant and dependent on him, so I am not a suitable, comfortable match for you.

प्रभु समर्थ हैं और अयोध्या के राजा हैं; वे जो कुछ करें, वह सब उन्हें शोभा देता है।

The Lord is powerful and king of Ayodhya; whatever he does befits him.

सेवक सुख चाहता है, भिखारी सम्मान, व्यसनी धन और व्यभिचारी शुभ गति—

A servant desires happiness, a beggar honor, an addict wealth, and an adulterer a blessed destiny—

लोभी यश और अभिमानी चारों पुरुषार्थ चाहता है; ये प्राणी मानो आकाश को दुहकर दूध पाना चाहते हैं।

The greedy desire fame and the proud the four aims of life; these people seek milk by milking the sky.

फिर वह लौटकर राम के पास आई; प्रभु ने उसे फिर लक्ष्मण के पास भेज दिया।

She returned to Rama, and the Lord sent her back to Lakshmana again.

लक्ष्मण ने कहा, ‘तुम्हें वही वरेगा जो लज्जा को तिनके की तरह तोड़कर त्याग दे।’

Lakshmana said, ‘Only someone who casts off shame as easily as snapping a blade of grass will marry you.’
